Julia and the Black Dress…

Written by Tedadnan on March 25th, 2008

While clearing up my computer hard drive (I need more memory space, anyone for 1 TB Western Digital ext HDD thingies? My current 500 GB MyBook World Edition is getting full and I just got tired of burning Deeveedees lah), I discovered that I haven’t quite finished doing post work for the set that I shot previously *you might want to check this post here *, so, here it is lah.

Julia and the Black Dress…

Dress by Arma Abdul Rahman Wedding & Couture, Make-up by Dwan
Photography & Art Direction: Ted Adnan

Again, I used a similar set up with Julia and the Butterfly set.
Nikon SB-800 and PW on silk umbrella bounced toward the model (from camera left), triggered by another PW attached to the Sony Alpha DSLR A700.
The umbrella was positioned just out of view on camera left, pointing downwards.
Hair light was from another SB-800 unit, position from slightly behind model’s back (camera right).

Some post treatment were done in PS. The sky and cloud was right there when I took this image, it was NOT ‘photoshopped’ in, in case you’re wondering, that is.

BTW, It took me a while to remember the ‘tone and manner’ of this photoshoot editing work tho!

I gotta write a tutorial on this so I won’t forget *LOL*

dude, where do you meter to get the blue sky?

Izzi dewd, it was quite a bright day and using ‘guide’ from my film days (sunny 16 rules, go google it up lah) I use a shutter speed of 1/250 and an aperture value of f/11. I get the sky blue (it was a blue sky day anyway) and by doing so I underexposed Julia slightly by 1/2 stop. I think.

To light up Julia I use the umbrella thingies bouncing the flash off it at Full power while the key/hairlight was at 1/4 power with the flash head zoomed at 85mm.

What a mouthful, I think I gonna sip some orange juice now *phew*

if u use Aperture2 u can up Vibrancy a lil’ bit to get the sky blue(r) without hitting the skin tone.

thanks for the tip kijal dewd :D
