A job in Sepang International Circuit, a few moons back… (a.k.a Studio Lighting Rentals in Malaysia)

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Allo allo and a good day, looks like I can find a few minutes to spare to blog a wee bit. Have you ever been to Sepang F1 Circuit in, erm, Sepang, The State of Selangor in the Federation of Malaysia? You know, the racetrack where people go for roundy-roundy races on two and four wheels? Lah, typically Malaysian lah you. you’ve been to London, Noo York & Paris but you never been to Sepang Circuit? Ish ish ish… I heard that most Noo Yorkers never visit the Statue of Liberty oso, nor Parisian ever visited the Eiffel Tower, nor Londoners ever visit the Big Ben, unless one is getting executed but that was before Democracy was ever introduced to the Englishmen, that’s what I read anyway. KL folks have one other thing in common with the Noo Yorker that is KL people never visited KL Tower. They might seen it on TV but they never visit the Tower. It’s always they maahhh so can always visit later what.

Only tourist visits tourist spots, locals goes elsewhere :D

Makes sense actually. Who wanna visit own backyard (unless you’re Singaporean, Malaysia is their backyard no? *Apologies to Singaporeans when lah you wanna extend your island all the way to Natuna? There’s always people who eager to sell you more sands you know *winks*)

Anyway, technically, I am not a motosport shooter, my good friend Peter Lim of photodesk.com shoots there all the time. Me there as ‘tourist’ ajer, sometimes when I wanna show off my three hundred emm emm f dua titik lapan nano crystal coated Nikkors lens with vibration reduction motor built in in the lens then I am there lah. You know, “if you got it, flaunt it”. Eh, when they said that they meant a ladies ‘asset’ isn’t it? Oh…

A teh tarik toast @ Sepang F1 Circuit media room, circa 2008

Now where was I? Ah yes, usually the folks who raced two wheelers take a break from their Winter time in Europe by vacationing in Malaysia. To make it all sounded legit they bring along a motorcycle or two, some engines, maybe a few test riders and contracted riders to Malaysia (I heard even elsewhere where it is sunny, but certainly not the Solomon island lah *winks*) and go about testing the motorcycles. They even dub the whole thing as “Winter testing” some more.

Say, you don’t really believe everything you read in the Innernet, no?

I was introduced to a photographer by the name of Andrew through a mutual friend. He needed to rent some lights for a job in Sepang. I happened to have  some Bowens Esprit 500 monoblocks in my Studio, which is located a mere 45 minutes drive away from the circuit. We communicate via e-mails and after firming up schedule and such my crew and I plus some equipments stuffed onto the back of the Van heads to the circuit lah.

Here’s the soft spoken Andrew, a former nightclub bouncer (as per interview here lah folks..) at work, some pictures by Bakhtiar My Assistant #1 while if you can’t see me in the picture it means I’m the one who taking them…

a film crew was filming the whole proceeding…

..another film crew was filming as well. Saaayy…. video dewds don’tch actually does any filming, no? they use tapes, so the actuall word I should’ve use is ‘a video crew is taping the whole proceedings’…

After setting up the lights as per Mr Andrew’s requirement, my task is to make sure every strobes is erm, strobing and adjust the lights as necessary. Reminded me of my days as a studio assistant myself many years ago lah *winks*

My Assistant #1, Mr Bakhtiar looks on while Mr Taufik my intern taking a sneak peek on Andrew’s work on the Mac Book Pro…

Coka-Cola is Andrew’s official sponsors for this photoshoot *laffs*

A curi-curi ‘candid’. No, I didn’t shoot HIS subject over his shoulder I only shoot behind the scene stuff ajer.

The result, straight from the camera. If you shoot hundreds or thousands of mages in an assignment, where lah got time to Photoshop one? As for me, I rather get my solid 8 hours sleep, so straight from the camera it is lah.

There’s no rental house that I know of in Malaysia who rented out studio strobes yet, but if you need to rent some lights for a photoshoot in Malaysia, give us a call lah. We got no Profoto’s (not chet anyway, bleeding expensive stuff, those Profotos!), we only have Bowens. If the ‘strobist’ way is not your thing, now you know where to rent some studio strobe while you’re in Malaysia lah.

PAYMENT
NOTIFICATION OF YOUR FUNDS.

Hello,

Most definitely, I am sure that the receipt of this email will be of
utmost blessing to you. I am Mohd Nazri Wan Osman. The Financial
Intelligence Officer of BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA (CENTRAL BANK OF
MALAYSIA)

You are been officially contacted by me today because your funds were
approved for payment by “Federal Suspense Account” of BANK NEGARA
MALAYSIA last week because you did not forward your claim as the
rightful beneficiary. The Central Bank of Malaysia is the parent bank
of all commercial banks here in Malaysia.

Our Governor, Dr. Mrs Zeti Akhtar Aziz, was visited in her office by
three gentlemen last Friday. These men were unexpected by her because
their visit was impromptu and was not expected. She asked the purpose
of their visit and they told her they came for the collection of your
Inheritance/Contract Funds of (US$7,500,000.00) SEVEN Million Five
Hundred Thousand Dollars which rightfully belongs to you, on your
behalf.

At this development, she asked who authorized them to come down to
Malaysia for the collection of the fund/payment and they told her you
asked them to come and collect the payment on your behalf. Infact,
this was the biggest shock that this bank has ever gotten because this
is the first time such funds is being claimed while still in the
FEDERAL SUSPENSE ACCOUNT because such funds can ONLY be claimed by the
sole beneficiary which is you and normally, a notice of 14days, the
least, has to be sent to us by you upon readiness to recieve the
funds. We do not understand why you sent these men to come for the
claim on your behalf and if actually you want them to help you collect
your funds, you should have at least informed her, Mrs Zeti Akhtar
Aziz, as the Executive Governor of this noble bank.

Note that they actually tendered vital documents which proved that you
actually sent them for the collection of these funds and honestly, it
really shocked him that you took such a decision without her consent.

Actually, the documents which they tendered is a clear proof that you
sent them to collect this funds for you. Finally, Mrs Zeti Akhtar Aziz
told them to come back on MONDAY and they promised to come. As the
Financial Intelligence Officer, I am supposed to release this funds to
them but I have refused to do so because I need to clarify this from
you first. Kindly get back to me with your personal contact
information including phone number(s)

Due to the nature of my job, I CANNOT afford to make any mistake in
releasing these funds to anyone except you, the recognized bonafide
beneficiary to these funds.
Kindly clarify us on this issue before we make the release of these
funds to the gentlemen. Note that for security reasons, you have been
assigned a code/password which is (BNM0147). Please note that this
code is the reference number for your transfer and it’s being
disclosed to you alone. Guard this jealously and all your email
response should carry this code as the subject.

Kindly direct your response to the private email address of my boss,
The Executive-Governor of BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA (CENTRAL BANK OF
MALAYSIA) below for quicker deliberation and response from her on the
release of your funds to you.

Email: <thegovernordeskbnknegara@hotmail.my>

Yours Faithfully,
Wan Mohd Nazri Wan Osman
Financial Intelligence Officer to
THE GOVERNOR.

Jangan biar sifat tamak memakan diri, jikalau “it’s too good to be true, it’s usually is”.

Macham-macham da dalam Innernet nih whoah hahahah

BTW, re the title above, “what I want for my birthday, is a Hasselblad H40D ajer with associated lens (a zoom, some wide and macro primes) and a set of  Profoto Pro-8a Air 2400 w/s Power Pack and flash heads. Make it 2 sets of the Pro-8a so I can rent one out *laffs*

A ‘Thank You Note’, of short… (a.k.a. A Short Programming break)

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Tsk tsk, look at my last blog entry. What a gap. That’s how busy I was lah (tweeting & fesbuk-ing doesn’t count, I can tweet and FB-ing on the fly with either my iPhone 3Gs or my “ancient” Blackberry Bold maaahhh). I checked my web stats can see a 40% drop in hits. Me think I need another 2 weeks of regular daily posting to bring back to crowd to my previous level of 1999 hits from 99 unique IP address from all over the World so I can start selling ad space here in this’ lighting blog (with bad grammars) and such lah’. Maybe If I positioned myself as the other Mr Dave Black or  Mr Dave Hill or Mr Dave Hobby of Strobist or Mr David Tejada or Mr JoeMcnally (the National Geographic dewd who came to KL recently sharing his knowledge using the “All Powerful All See-ing, can see and record images in the Dark with CLEAN files even with ISO rating of 24 Million Mega peeping pixel” Nikon system) perhaps I can get more daily hits lah.

Hmmmm, that’s a thot…..

Hmmm…

Hmm… (deep thots here, in case you dontch know, not chet anyway…)

Hmmmmm…….

Naahh. I think I just be myself lah thank you very much *winks*

Oh, if you’re not a 80′s heavy metal nor 90′s ‘alternative’ kumpulan gitar ranchak dewd I won’tch be your ‘fan’ either, I will un-”friend” you oso. I didn’t spam you to me my fan in fesbuk, no? )

Thank You All, I’m touched, here’s a ‘Thank You note’ to y’all..

Thank You lah!

Thank You for the Birthday wishes from Ted Adnan & Friends!

P.S. Photo was taken by Mr Bug, My #1 Assistant  (I dontch have an opening for another assistant, but if you wanna do an internship PLEASE write in with a formal business letter either in Bahasa Melayu or English to tedadnan@gmail.com not via YM nor FB nor sms messages) in a corporate dinner event held on the 23rd of April, last Friday.

P.P.S. Dammit after looking at the picture above  think I need to trim down my tummy a wee bit. After all, even tho I grew back my ponytail I dontch always get to wear all black (like the Steven Seagal dewd) to sip my nice teh tarik (not that Steven Seagal is a teh tarik connoisseur that is) at the regular roadside mamak establishment oso after a photoshoot, no?

P.P.P.S. Regular programming will be back soon-ish
