A couple of hours before the clock struck midnight on 26th April 2012 which officially means I hit the Big Four Oh decade already I posted in my facebook page about my birthday wish list, namely, some Casio G-Shocks model up to the Casio ProTrek series.

I wore a Tissot since 2001, bought it from my first ever commercial shoot for a (now defunct) investment company based in Kuala Lumpur. I learnt early about making first impression and how one dress can make or break a deal. At the time I feel a Breitling was THE kewl accessories a dewd could have (another Tag Heur wearer friend of mind intro me to the brand lah) when I checkout the price I pengsan already. A rich olde man can afford a Breitling and show it off lah. Since I am technically not an olde man, nor cash rich, as a stop gap measure I got me the Tissot.

I wore the Tissot since.

These days I kinda partial with any Casio with a wee bit of colour to contrast with the base black, as any all black thingies is “boring” in my book. Like how a certain private uni all black dress code. Dewd, some said all black attire attracts negative energy lah yo! Add a bit of white it looks like what appears to come out from a cicak backside even. Now, if you’re thinking what colour similar with what comes out from a cicak behind a lawyer Black&White attire comes to mind.

Anyway, as it happen, my wishlist didnt come thru (to be expected oso, last year I wished that instead of “Happy Birthday” or “Many Happy Returns” from my 5,000 FB friends, can they send RM10.00 each instead? That be more meaningful no? RM10.00 x 5,000 FB = RM50,000 means I can get the Pentax 645D camera plus some used lenses and some change there can oso can finance my photography trip throughtout Southeast Asia and maybe I can make a book deal out of it oso!

Didn’t happen tho, so this year 26th April come to pass and yes, while I didnt get the Casio nor the aforementioned cash your birthday wishes warms up my heart.

The ever popular “I Light It My Way” Lighting Workshop is back with a new revised and IMPROVED module for 2012. Jam packed with practical lighting set ups and tips by Ted Adnan, a published, working, professional photographer with more than 10 years industry experience, you’re going to have the privilige of observing and later setting up shots and make images that you can call your own and you can use it as YOUR OWN PORTFOLIO as well!

This hands-on workshop is designed to give an understanding of lighting at outdoor locations. At the end of the workshop, you will learn the necessary lighting fundamentals for you to succeed as a location portraiture photographer with skills that’s applicable even for fashion, events or wedding assignments. In addition to learning how to use and modify existing light, you’ll learn about using fill lights utilising on camera flash and/or light reflectors. You’ll learn about using portable flash techniques to emulate studio lighting set up OUTDOORS as well. You get to learn all that, and many many more lighting tips and tricks, from a published, working professional photographers with 10++ years experience shooting advertising and corporate assignments for a diverse range of clientele.

The details of the workshop are as follows:

Saturday : 5th May 2012
Venue : Several location in and around Kuala Lumpur. Meeting point at Tasik Perdana, Kuala Lumpur. (The exact location will be revealed to confirmed participants)
Time: 10am ~ 8pm

Why such a long workshop durations? We’re going to start the day by learning the quality of lights that’s available in nature (which might/might not be what you want) and learn how to get the correct exposure in camera. To assist your progression from an “available light” only photographer we’re going to conduct a lot of “lighting” exercise! After all, you learn photography by doing not by reading it from a book!
You’re going to apply all that you learned from the earlier session into more advance technique late in the day culminating with a night shoot in downtown Kuala Lumpur right after sundown.

No restrictions on camera make, all are welcome as long as it is a DSLR. Do bring your external flash along if you have any. Oh! Don’t forget to charge your camera battery and bring big capacity storage card as well!

Fees: this workshop is valued @ RM900.00 but your investment is ONLY @ RM550.00/USD170.00 per participant (Group rates are available, please contact us for details), YES, you read it right, only RM550.00 per person for a FULL DAY of experiential learning experience!

-Lens selection for effective portrait presentation

Who should attend?
Beginner’s to advanced amateur who wishes to take their photography up to the next level. Nothing beats a working experience, but this workshop will definitely help you get you there faster!

I will only take a maximum of 4 (four! YES! You read it right! only 4!) person only per workshop, small personalised classes for maximum attention to all!

The class will be conducted in both Bahasa Melayu and English.

I’m going to announce another KL Lighting workshop soon, probably will be the last one for KL this year (see how lah, but I got some travel plans already lined up and oso will be taking up invitation to teach all over the country in the next few months and to top it off I’m taking weekend classes oso *for personal development thingies, more on that later*). As promised, Ms Clarabelle modelled for the Saratok Lighting Workshop held in Sarawak last weekend. I was invited to conduct a similar workshop in Sarikei, tentatively will be held on the 16th & 17th June 2012 and Ms Clarabelle will probably be modelling for us again…
